Building Together FAQs

1. Why does Fellowship Church Rouge Park (FCRP) need a permanent building?

FCRP has grown and ministered without owning a permanent facility, relying on rented and shared spaces for Sunday worship and ministry. We are grateful for the spaces God has provided, but a permanent home would give the church greater stability and flexibility for worship, discipleship, children and youth ministry, community outreach, leadership development, and ministry throughout the week.

The New Testament does not prescribe whether a church must own, rent, or borrow its meeting space. The priority is that the church gathers faithfully and carries out its mission. For FCRP, a permanent facility is not the mission; it is a tool that can help us pursue that mission more effectively over the long term.

2. How does a permanent building fit into the long-term vision of the church?

FCRP exists to bring the hope of the gospel to the GTA by sharing Christ, inviting people into biblical community, making disciples, developing mature believers and servant leaders, and sending them out to serve and multiply ministry.

We therefore see a permanent facility as a ministry centre rather than simply a building: a place where people can hear the gospel, grow as disciples, receive pastoral care, build community, be equipped to lead, and be sent out to serve. It can also strengthen partnerships with other ministries and support our desire to help plant healthy churches in the GTA.

3. Why can’t Fellowship Church Rouge Park (FCRP) fund the capital campaign entirely from its own congregation?

Our congregation is committed to supporting the ministry of FCRP through regular and sacrificial giving. However, acquiring a permanent facility in the Scarborough Area represents a financial need that extends beyond what our local congregation can reasonably accomplish on its own.

That is why we are inviting other believers, churches, foundations, and ministry partners to come alongside us. We see this as an opportunity for gospel partnership, believers working together to accomplish something that would be difficult for one congregation to do alone.

4. What exactly will campaign funds be used for?

Funds raised through the Building Together Campaign are intended to move FCRP toward a permanent ministry home. Depending on the property ultimately identified, funds could be used for the purchase of land or an existing facility, renovations or construction, professional and transaction costs, and other expenses required to make the property suitable for long-term ministry.

Any final decision will need to balance ministry needs, location, affordability, stewardship, and long-term sustainability.

5. Where is Fellowship Church Rouge Park (FCRP) looking for a property, and could the location change?

Our desire is to remain in a location that allows us to continue serving the people and communities God has already placed around FCRP. At the same time, property opportunities in the Scarborough Area can be limited and expensive, so we want to remain open to a suitable opportunity in the surrounding area if it provides the right combination of accessibility, ministry potential, affordability, and long-term sustainability.

The goal is not to secure a property at any cost or at one predetermined address, but to find a location that best enables the church to carry out its mission for years to come.

6. What type of property is Fellowship Church Rouge Park (FCRP) looking for?

We are looking for a property that can serve both our present ministry and future growth without creating an unsustainable financial burden. We are not committed to only one type of property.

The right opportunity could involve acquiring and adapting an existing church or other suitable building, repurposing another type of property, or purchasing land and constructing a facility if that proves to be the most responsible option. The key question is: What property will best enable the ministry God has entrusted to us?

7. What is the timeline for the campaign?

The campaign is being approached in stages rather than around a single property-purchase deadline. The initial objective is to build significant seed funding over the first three years while continuing to identify and evaluate potential properties.

The church will assess opportunities as they arise and will only move forward when there is a suitable property, sufficient financial capacity, and confidence that the decision is wise and sustainable. The timeline may therefore be adjusted as property opportunities and campaign results become clearer.

8. What happens if the campaign does not reach its initial fundraising goal?

The church does not intend to purchase a property simply for the sake of completing a
campaign. If fundraising is below the level  needed to pursue a responsible property opportunity, the church can pause, reassess the strategy and timeline, and continue seeking the Lord’s direction while stewarding the funds already raised.

Success is not simply purchasing a building by a particular date. Success means moving faithfully and wisely toward a sustainable permanent home that strengthens the church’s mission rather than placing an unhealthy financial burden on it.

9. What happens to funds that have been raised if the campaign is paused or the church decides not to proceed?

Funds given to the Building Together Campaign will be carefully stewarded for the purpose for which they were raised. If the campaign is paused, those funds would remain designated toward the church’s pursuit of a permanent ministry home while the church reassesses timing and opportunities.

If the church were ever to determine that it should no longer pursue the campaign, the elders would communicate clearly with the congregation and campaign partners and determine the appropriate next steps for those funds in a manner consistent with the purpose of the gifts and the church’s charitable obligations.

10. Why should I consider partnering with Fellowship Church Rouge Park (FCRP)?

A gift to this campaign is an opportunity to invest in more than bricks and mortar. FCRP is a multi-ethnic church in Scarborough committed to evangelism, biblical discipleship, developing servant leaders, serving its community, and helping plant healthy churches.

By partnering with Building Together, donors can help establish a permanent ministry base from which that work can continue and grow for years to come. We invite partners not simply to help us acquire property, but to build together for the sake of the gospel in the GTA.
